The Stations of the Cross is the telling of the journey of Jesus Christ from when he was sentenced to death by Pontius Pilate to when Jesus was laid in the tomb after his death. It is a a beautiful yet horrifying telling of the suffering that Jesus undertook at the hands of the very people he came to save: us. All of us. Something he would do just three days later on Easter.
Each station is an opportunity to reflect on the suffering that Jesus undertook for us. I rarely find an opportunity to go to the telling of the Stations of the Cross in church. But I have included below a video of Bishop Robert Barron’s telling of it.
For reference, here is a list of each station:
Jesus is condemned to death.
Jesus carries His cross.
Jesus falls the first time.
Jesus meets His mother, Mary.
Simon of Cyrene helps Jesus carry the cross.
Veronica wipes the face of Jesus.
Jesus falls the second time.
Jesus meets the women of Jerusalem.
Jesus falls the third time.
Jesus is stripped of His garments.
Jesus is nailed to the cross.
Jesus dies on the cross.
Jesus is taken down from the cross.
Jesus is laid in the tomb.
Here is Bishop Barron’s telling of the Stations of the Cross
It’s amazing that Jesus would go through all of this for the very people that condemned him to death. But there was a plan. God’s plan. There always is and just three days later Jesus comes back to life.
Peace.
